Summer Comes

The challenge at dVerse this week is a lovely one of Colour and there is nothing more colourful to me right now than the coming of our summer (yes, even including the drying grasses and soil!).  So, firstly, thank you, Victoria for a great prompt and secondly....

Summer Comes
Jacarandas splash their gentle accent against a cobalt sky,
Cicadas chirrup in pale sienna, against the wheaten rye.
With washes of vibrant intensity, the sun calls forth each hue...
and the warmth shines through.

Gum trees soak the canvas now, in swirls of olive green,
with bark of burnt sienna and deepest ultramarine.
They soften as they touch the sky, diffuse amongst the blue...
and the light shines through.

Parrots cry their freedom in brilliant rainbow ease,
With gorgeous accents here and there, they braid the sky and trees.
They mingle with the softer edge, but keep their colours true...
and the life shines through.

The atmosphere sings golden in the sun's aureolin glow,
it warms every pigment that it touches high or low.
As it spreads throughout the land, it wakens life anew...
and the summer shines through.

Hi Claudia! Those jacarandas are like a herald of summer to me every year, and I love summer, so I get really excited when they start to blossom! They usually hit in early Dec where I live, so I am a little early this year, but hey - I can't wait!
Enjoy your winter!

Beautiful poem, Zoe, with grand imageries. Its as if I can see all the vibrancy before my eyes! :)

Brian - we have to make the most of our colourful summer - and to be honest, a lot of that colour comes from unexpected places because our trees are a drab blue grey green through to olive. And they do not drop leaves (well not all at once anyway!) so we have no true 'fall'. One of the other bonuses to me of summer is that it means the spring wattles are almost finished blooming - and they are bringers of hayfever, so we all breathe a sigh of relief to see them go!

Jen - so good to hear from you! I have been hoping things are going well - you have to keep us posted on the manuscript! And thank you for such kind words - they mean a lot to me.
Insanebloom - that is so exciting! I love it when the pictures I paint come to life for someone else. :D

You've used color to make this poem, like summer, and like your name, full of life. Beautifully written, Zoe. I have to wait 6 months for jacarandas...one of my favorite trees.

Morning - what a relief that you picked those lines! I was actually a bit worried that no-one would get that image - because you almost have to have seen a flock of rainbow lorikeets flying haphazardly through the trees to understand. So your comment made my day. :)
Victoria - your words mean a lot too. It is always exciting when someone else picks up what I am trying to say in a poem. Thank you for your encouragement!

exquisitely beautiful
I love our rainbow lorikeets at the aviary, but sadly will never see them braid the sky and trees, what a lovely image though

Hi Blossom - thank you so much! They are beautiful birds, aren't they?! I hope that you do get to see them flying free one day - it is quite a sight. :) There is a flock of wild ones that visit our local zoo and splash in the waterfall. Stunning birds. :)
