Undercurrents - often they speak louder than the surface, at least they do to me. I had almost forgotten how big a role they play - So thank you, Karin, at dVerse for reminding me for this week's interesting prompt.
Ice Age
I suppose I should say
It is good to see you
But I can’t.
Your arms surround me
But don’t touch my heart
The warmth of your skin
Forms ice in my soul
As the glaciers creep
Slowly southward
With each unlooked for caress
The sun wanes
It’s feeble light flees
The dark winter
Of your embrace

It's terrible, the death of love. Your words capture its harsh grip well.
Beautiful poem, and very sad. Cold ending to a love story.
sad when the former warmth and love turns into an ice age and darkness.. you capture the cold well in your verse
An icy touch like that is like being stranded on a deserted island... alone.

great undercurrents to this one - I like the interplay between ice and warmth. nicely done.
Oh dear--this is very powerful--the play between that physical closeness and interior isolation. Well done. (And thanks for your thanks.) K>
Zoe, I love this poem. I had to smile at the comments though, they saw something I didn't see! :-)
This poem really resonates with me. I've been in those embraces that look warm but chill to the bone. How we had to smile and accept them while inside something cringed. Something froze.
So well written...love this!
the dark winter of your embrace...that hits the pit of the stomach...i feel the cold int eh relationship...well written and evocative...
Your poem expresses the death of feeling very well. Unlike the others I do not find it sad, rather a merciful release.
Ohh I really like this!! "The warmth of your skin forms ice in my soul." Wow!
Short and to the point and oh-so-chilly ... I like this very much ... you've captured so many feelings well

oh how i don't know all about this kind of pain, the death of love is the worst kind of emotion that has ever existed..
I can feel the cold note each nerve-ending. Great imagery, I can visualize the moment.
I have felt the remorse from a touch that was uninvited. You've described it so well.
